By Aliyu Abdullahi Yauri
The appointment of legal guru and founder of Modern Nigeria Law School, Professor Tahir Mamman is one of the best appointment so far made by His Excellency, Bola Ahmad Tinubu, the President and Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
I believe his appointment into this important position is not unconnected with his unprecedented achievements as Director General, Nigeria Law School were he successfully transformed the institution campuses and curriculum to one of the best globally.
Tahir Mamman, honest, charismatic and intelligent professor in law is ever ready to reflect his law school success story into Education sector in Nigeria.
It is destruction that occurred in a twinkle of an eye but construction take longer time to materialized. It is no more a story that education sector in Nigeria especially the public schools and institutions are in destress conditions for decades hence transforming it need a ample time no matter the talent and creativity of the person heading the education ministry.
Fully knowledgeable about the state of education in Nigeria, little wonder how Prof. Tahir Mamman hit the ground running immediately he was
inaugurated as Minister of Education, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Prof. Tahir Mamman was so lucky to have behind a very talented medical doctor turn versertile expert, Hon. Dr. Tanko Yusuf Sununu as Minister of State in the same Education Ministry.
The dio, Professor Tahir and Doctor Sununu waste no time in unveiling Comprehensive Reforms to Revolutionize Nigerian Education:
In a bid to address the pressing issue of Out-of-School Children, the Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, has enrolled two million Almajiri Children into Basic and Arabic Literacy Programs. Mamman emphasized the Government’s commitment to reducing the number of Out-of-School Children and disclosed plans to introduce courses on Skills Development and Acquisitions at the Basic Education and Secondary level.
Prof. Mamma introduced various initiatives to enhance Education accessibility and quality, including the development of guidelines for inclusive Basic Education, upgrading of research facilities, and sponsoring innovation programs for aspiring inventors.
Additionally, over 70,000 Teachers and non-teaching Staff have undergone training to improve Educational standards, courtesy of the Prof. in addressing challenges such as insecurity and fake certificates, Prof. Mamman assured proactive measures, including collaboration with security Agencies and crackdowns on certificate forgery.
Furthermore, “as Government Schools receive innovative ideas, training, and support to enhance their standards, Private Schools in Nigeria will inevitably need to significantly lower their fees which will ensure accessibility for all Students in Nigeria” Prof. Tahir insisted.
In recognition of importance of Technology in addressing the learning crisis and promoting Skill Development, Prof Tahir introduced numerous technology base infrastructure in education sector in Nigeria.
From the foregoing, it is evident, obvious and open that should Prof. Tahir Mamman successfully achieve all the set objectives, he stand good chance of becoming best Education minister Nigeria ever had.
Slow and steady wins a race; Rome was not built in a day, that is exact case with ongoing reforms in Nigeria education sector under the able leadership of Professor Tahir Mamman OON, SAN.
