Fire Guts Two Popular Markets, Destroys About 200 Shops
Fire gutted two markets, Kasuwan Daji and Kara market, in Sokoto on Wednesday and destroyed goods worth several millions of Naira.
Daily Trust gathered that the fire which started around 11:30am and lasted till evening time destroyed over 150 shops at Kasuwan Daji.
The fire at Kara market started around 7pm and was still raging as of the time of filing this report with men of the federal and Sokoto State fire services battling to put it off.
Causes of the two fire incidents could not be ascertained as of press time.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Bashir Jegawa, who visited Kasuwan Daji said a committee would be set up to ascertain the damage for possible support.
The Chairman of the Sokoto State Traders Association, Alhaji Chika Sarkin Gishiri, said traders lost goods worth millions of naira.
