Group Slams Police Over Arrest of Peace Corps Commandant
Ambassador Ademario Emmanuel, Director General of Coalition of Nigeria Youth on Security and safety Affairs (CONYSSA), has strongly condemned the recent arrest of the Peace Corps National Commandant, Dr Dickson Akoh and personnel, citing an ongoing court case.
Emmanuel praised the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun for his efforts, noting Nigerians’ relative peace is due to citizen cooperation. He urged police cooperation over intimidation
He emphasizing that the case is already in court. He questioned the need for victimization and intimidation of innocent people before the court judgment is rendered
Emmanuel urged the police to adopt a cooperative approach rather than creating unnecessary tension. Specifically, Emmanuel demanded the immediate release of all young persons arrested at the Peace Corps office, condemning the practice of weekend arrests and prolonged detention until Monday.
