Manchester United have appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim manager, a statement posted on the club’s official website announced Monday, November 29, 2021.

Rangnick will hold the position until the end of the season, subject to work visa requirements.
United have also announced that Rangnick will continue to play a consulting role for two more years after the end of the season.

Speaking on the appointment, Manchester United Director of Football John Murtough said: “Ralf is one of the most respected coaches and innovators in European football. He was our number one candidate for interim manager, reflecting the invaluable leadership and technical skills he will bring from nearly four decades of management and coaching experience.

However, everyone at the club looks forward to working with him in the coming season and then for two more years in his role as advisor. ”

For his part, Rangnick said: “I am delighted to join Manchester United and I am focused on making this season a success for the club.

“The team is full of talent and has a good balance between youth and experience. All of my efforts over the next six months will be to help these players realize their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team.

“Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s long term goals on an advisory basis.”
The club also announced that Michael Carrick, who is currently interim manager, “will remain in charge of the first team until Ralf’s work visa is finalized.

“The club would like to express their thanks to Lokomotiv Moscow for their cooperation in the process of bringing Ralf to Manchester United.”
