“No acting COAS appointed, Lagbaja is active” – DHQ

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters, DHQ has set the record straight on the rumours surrounding the health status of the Chief of Army Staff, COAS Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.

It should be recalled that there were speculations in some quarters on Sunday, purporting the death of the COAS and the announcement of the acting Chief of Army Staff.

However, in a statement on Monday by the Army Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the DHQ said Lagbaja is currently on a “well-deserved rest as part of his 2024 annual leave”.

The statement also clarified that no any senior officer was appointed as the acting Chief of Army Staff, COAS as being peddled on social media

According to the statement, the Nigerian army is “professionally managed and all the Service Chiefs are performing their duties as stipulated in the Constitution.

“The DHQ urges individuals spreading unfounded rumours to desist from doing so immediately. The COAS is hale and hearty and will soon resume normal duties at the end of his leave.

____“Media organizations are advised to verify information with the appropriate authorities before releasing fake news to the public. The CDS had only spoken with the COAS a few minutes ago.”(DailyPost)
