BREAKING: Nigerian Olympic gold medalist is dead
The current world record holder in the men’s 65 kg weightlifting category, Paul Kehinde, aka Olumi Agberin, has died. Kehinde was also a former world number 1 para powerlifter, Olympic gold medalist and Commonwealth Games champion. Kehinde died Thursday from a brief illness. He was 33 years old.
He was born in Epe, Lagos State.
His accomplishments include silver at the 2011 World Championships, gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and gold at the 2015 African Games (setting an African record of 214 kg).
During this time he also won gold at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games (he broke the world record twice with lifts of 218 kg and 220 kg), gold at the World Championships in Mexico with a another 220 kg lifting world record and another gold medal at the 2018 FAZZA Para-Powerlifting World Championship. with a record lifting of 220 kg.
However, he won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Australia and gold at the 2018 African Championship.
