35 Osun Students Hospitalize After Inhaling Police Teargas In Osogbo

The breeze of the tear-gas used during a morning drill of the 39-Squadron Division of Mobile Policemen along Osogbo-Ikirun road, Osogbo the State capital has affected students of Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo.

According to reports, about thirty-five students of the school collapsed and hospitalized after Inhaling the breeze of the tear-gas on Tuesday morning.

The students were reportedly inside the classroom reaching lecturer opposite the police division when the breeze of the teargas affected them and led some of them to faint.

When contacted, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Adelani Aderinola, through the Information Officer, Roseline Olawuni said the mobile policemen were holding memorial exercise in honour of their fallen colleagues in Benue state when they used the tear-gas that affected the students.

According to her; “They were shooting tear gas which affected the students on the school.

However, the matter has been escalated to the Police Commissioner and has stopped the exercise. The students have been taken to the hospital and most of them have been stabilised.”

While speaking, the spokesperson of Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola confirmed that the police did not fire the tear-gas inside the school but they were just using it for their drill. We have ordered them to stop the action. We are sorry for inconvenience.”


At the time of filing this report, no life was lost, while the affected students were receiving medical attention at the Uniosun teaching hospital.
