Abuja takes over case of OAU Masters Students killed In Hotel
Nigerian Police Headquarters, Abuja, ordered the immediate transfer of the investigation into the death of Timothy Adegoke, a master’s student from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, which allegedly took place at Hilton Hotels and Resort, Ile-Ife.
Already, the owner of the hotel, chef Ramon Adedoyin and six employees of the establishment had been arrested in connection with the death.
It was reported that some people tried to lobby for the case to be transferred to Abuja.
When contacted, State Police Command spokeswoman Yemisi Opalola said she had not been briefed on the matter.
However, a source close to the police command, who requested anonymity on Friday, told reporters that a signal had been received from Force Headquarters asking for the case to be transferred.
Following the order, the source said the suspects will be transferred to Abuja at any time once the necessary documents are completed.
The source said: “The order is not hiding anything. But we have been ordered to transfer the case and once the necessary documents are completed, the suspects will be transferred to Abuja. ”
In his reaction, Naim Adekilekun, the lawyer for the Adegoke family, said he was told that Force Headquarters had resumed investigation into the case.
Adekilekun, however, demanded that the case be referred to the Osun State Police Command for its investigators to complete the death investigation. He said, “I have been informed. But we don’t want the case to be transferred. It must be transferred back.
Meanwhile, Adedoyin’s attorney, Mr Abiodun Williams, in his reaction to the development, said his client was innocent.
He said, “We are not disturbed. Let the matter be taken anywhere. Chief Adedoyin is 101 percent innocent. The officers in Abuja can do nothing better than what the Osun State Command has diligently done. “
