Govt Bans Street Begging, Threatens To Fine Defaulters

Information reaching the OSUNREPORTERS NEWS has it that, Kwara State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the state’s Hausa community banning street begging in Ilorin, the state capital.

,,,,,, According to the report, the Commissioner for Social Development, Hon.Abosede Aremu stated this in Ilorin on Thursday.

,,,,,,,,She explained that the administration made the brave measure in response to the nuisance that street begging causes on main highways in the capital.

…..The Commissioner posited that her ministry and leaders from the Hausa community had signed an MoU prohibiting street begging in Ilorin.

,,,,,She reminded the residents that there is a punishment and penalty for street begging which attracts a fine or imprisonment according to Kwara State Street Begging Prohibition Law 2006.

…..The representatives of the Hausa community, Surajudeen Hussain, Rufai Sanni and Mohammed Lawal assured the state government of their cooperation in getting Ilorin streets free of beggars.


,,,,,,It would be recalled that hundreds of beggars who migrated from the Northern parts of the country are always seen in some parts of the state capital and other major towns in the state begging for alms.
