DPO Faces Disciplinary Action For Assaulting Woman
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka has assured that the command under his watch will not hesitate to take appropriate action against the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Akpajo Police Station, Emmanuel Ifeanyi.
The DPO was accused of “assaulting” a member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers alongside an official from the state Ministry of Social Welfare.
The police officer was reported to have seized the mobile phones of the member of FIDA the social welfare officials, detained them for more 4 hours and threatened to deal with them over an issue about the recovery of an abandoned baby.
The FIDA member had discovered an abandoned baby in a church around the area and reported to the Police division.
However, a disagreement ensued over the right institution to take custody of the baby.
FIDA said through its state chairperson, Adata Bio-Briggs; that an official of the organisation had asked that the baby be taken to the ministry of social welfare but the DPO allegedly insisted that the baby be taken an orphanage home in the area.
