Court Sends 3 Osun Chiefs To Remand Over N2.2M “Obaship” Fraud Allegation

,,,,,,Three traditional chiefs and one other have been remanded by an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly defrauding a prince on the pretense to install him as a king.

The chiefs; Adepoju Aderemi, Muritala Adeleke, Najeem Ayoku and one other, Egbebi Kolawole were arraigned on four count of perjury, fraud and breach of peace by the police.

,,,,,The police prosecutor, Saheed Anifowose in a charge pressed against the four defendants read, “Chief Adepoju Aderemi, Chief Muritala Adeleke, Chief Najeem Ayoku, Egbebi Kolawole and others now at large between the 13th to 17th November, 2022 at Ekosin/Town in the Osogbo Magisterial District did conspire together to commit felony to wit Pejury, Obtaining Money Under false Pretence and Conduct Likely to cause Breach of Peace.

“They did with intent to defraud, obtain thr sum of N2,200,000 from one Adepoju Kazeem Olalekan under the presence of installing him as a King which you know to be false thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”

He added that they conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace which is contrary to and punishable under Section 249(d) and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun state of Nigeria 2002.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the alleged offenses as their counsel, Barr Yemi Abiona applied for their bail in the most liberal term.

,,,,,The presiding magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara ordered that they should be remanded in Correctional Center and said the matter should be transferred to Okuku Magistrate for fresh arraignment.
