A social political group known as Asuwaju Grassroot Foundation (AGF), working to promote and propagate the political Ideologies and Philosophies of the APC National Leader- Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has described the national observation of June 12th in recognition of the historic election that took place 26 years ago and ultimate sacrifice of the eventual presumed winner of the said election – Late Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola as a national holiday and democracy day as a genuine path to national healing, reconciliation and democratic consolidation.

In a statement signed by the AGF National Coordinator, Comrade Olateju Adunni Olorungbebe on Wednesday, said June 12 is a national question that remained unanswered until last year June when President Muhammadu Buhari took the bold step to right the long overdue wrongs of the past and set the foot of Nigeria democracy on a strong foundation and positive legitimacy perception.

According to the statement “As we are celebrating the first ever national day of June 12 in Nigeria today, I urge all players and actors in Nigeria political system to play the game according to the rule in order not to return back to the worst years of authoritarian rule”. Olateju in the statement said, tribute must be given to all the heroes and heroines who sacrificed their properties, comfort and ultimately their lives in order to have this kind of day in our political experience. “To God be the glory that your efforts and sacrifices are not in vain. I pray to God Almighty to continue to grant your souls eternal rest as we continue from where you stopped to entrench democratic governance in Nigeria”.

Olateju praised Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for his contribution to June 12 struggle and eventual recognition of the day as Democracy day, we will not do ourselves justice if we fail to recognize the effort of Asiwaju who give his all to June 12 till all Nigerians finally embraced it.

“I wish all the good people of Nigeria Happy Democracy Day and pray for many more peaceful years ahead full of advancement of our dear country Nigeria,” he concluded.
