Oodua Republic; We Are Not Fools, By MUPAF

Ask the agitators for Oodua Republic the reason for the motive, they will tell you we do not need one Nigeria because the North has dominated the Country. A very lame excuse. We have 36 States each with the representatives and administrators they choose. No Hausa man has ever ruled a State in the South West. No Yoruba man has emerged a Governor in the East just as no man from the East or South South has ruled a State in the North democratically. When Nigeria ran a parliamentary system of Government, each region elected its own as its Premier. Chief Awolowo on the Federal stage because of the face off between him and his kinsman.

Chief Obafemi Awolowo was jailed when another kinsman of his was the Chief Judge of the Federation, Justice Adetokunbo Ademola from Abeokuta. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said, prior to 1979 presidential election that the best candidate might not win, apparently referring to Awolowo. Also prior to 1993 General Elections, Obasanjo said Abiola was not the Messiah Nigerians needed. Who is deceiving who?

When Abiola was incarcerated courtesy of Abacha, kinsmen, Lateef Jakande, Ebenezer Babatope and others accepted appointments under General Abacha surreptitiously agreeing that Abiola’s ambition be nailed. Who killed who?

When Obasanjo was handed PDP’s ticket in 1998,Yorubas rose against him but the Hausas gave him support to win. Who hates who?

Nigeria is 60 years. The North with 18 States has ruled for about 33 years with a Christian, Gowon taking 9 years. The South has ruled for 27 years with a Christian Yoruba, Obasanjo taking 11 years. Who is blocking who?

Is this truly an agitation? Where have the Oyos, Ijesas, Egbas, Ijebus, Ekitis etc met to discuss agitation? How many foremost Yoruba Obas have supported it? How many South West Governors have said anything in its support? What is the position of the State Houses of Assembly on the matter?

And now to fellow unsuspecting Muslims, this is an agenda to wind back the hands of clock for muslims. It’s an agenda by those who refer to themselves as Leaders of Yorubas but are populated by non Muslims. Igbimo Agba Yoruba, Egbe Afenifere, Renewed Afenifere etc. Study their composition before you fall into the trap. Second slavery for us? No.

If there were to be genuine agitation for Oodua Republic, would it be led through banditry of Gani Adams and Sunday Igboho who would eventually become Presidential candidate and Senate President respectively? When the going was good for them in the previous Governments, Nigeria was good as one. No wonder many youths now see thuggery and banditry as ladders to becoming tilted chiefs and successful “businessmen”.

And for those who are applauding the reported chase of the Fulanis from Yoruba land, take this. If we decide to burn their mud huts and kill a few of them, have we prepared to receive our kinsmen from the North? Remember what happened during the Sharian crisis in 2000? Many of the Yorubas from the North slept at the palaces, mosques and churches when they came down here.

If reprisal attacks start in the North against the Yoruba, our mansions and businesses there would go down in ruins. We have hundreds of undergraduates in the North. Many of them would be hacked down. What mansions do the Fulani have here? What undergraduates? What directors here?

Nine years after South Sudan had broken away from Sudan, the Country is still being plagued by corruption and tribal wars besides natural vagaries. Several years after Pakistan had got itself away from India, thousands of lives have been lost to crisis over Kashmir.

Oodua Republic? The war of leadership would soon start between between the Egbas the Ijebus the Ekitis the Ekitis the Ijesas. We are gradually slipping into the old days of superiority wars in Yorubaland.

Don’t be fooled by the propaganda that Yorubas are being marginalised. The South West used to have thriving Cocoa House, who destroyed it? Hausas? Who destroyed Liberty Stadium? Fulanis? Who stood against renaming Unilag after MKO Abiola? The Igalas? Who are the causes of land crises between Ife and Modakeke, between Ilobu and Ifon, between Ofa and Erin Ile, between Osogbo and Ede? The Jukuns? The Gwaris? The Nupes? The Idomas?

Why has the agitation not started from the Houses of Assembly to the National Assembly if truly we are the most enlightened people in Nigeria? There have been guerrilla wars in Liberia, Cote d’ivoire, Iraq,Sri Lanka, Cuba. The Countries never experienced dismemberment. Currently, the World sees Nigeria as the most powerful nation in Africa. Nigeria’s decision on Africa is a respected decision in AU and UN.
