Osun: Residents Panic As Ifon-Ilobu Crisis Resurgence

Published

Information reaching the OsunReporters News confirmed that the communal clash between Ifon-Osun and Ilobu communities has taken a fresh dimension as the ancient towns were on Monday soaked in tension over reported resurgence of the communal war that unsettled them last year.

OsunReporters News recall that the towns had clashed over land boundary, a development that caused avoidable crisis that had escalated to destruction of property, killings and maiming of innocent citizens.

Meanwhile, the peace that the towns had been enjoying since the curfew imposed by the state government was threatened on Monday as residents started running helter-skelter over the speculation within the towns that some buildings in remote parts of Ifon, including a police post were razed down by some hoodlums in the wee hours of Monday, a situation that heightened panic in the affected community.

Some parents had on Monday morning ran to the schools of their children and withdrew them as some traders hurriedly shot their shops when news filtered that there might have been a resurgence of the crisis that rocked the neighbouring communities.

However, security agencies including the Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were seen moving to the towns in their patrol vehicles to restore calm to the communities as security personnel had been stationed in strategic locations in the towns.
