Political Thugs Invade Election Petition Tribunal
,,,,Political thugs caused a mild drama on Monday at the Isabo area of Abeokuta, where the Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal was being held.
. ..The hoodlums invaded the area and scared away politicians. As the Tribunal commenced its session, a group of political supporters, consisting of numerous thugs, forcefully entered the court premises to show their solidarity towards their respective political parties.
….During a minor clash between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, some of the thugs were spotted holding canes.
…Fully armed security operatives, including the police, DSS, and Civil Defence, were required to intervene and disperse the thugs before peace could be restored.
,,,,Security operatives reportedly barred political supporters from entering the court premises.
…Vehicular movement was prevented as the road leading to the court was blocked. Anxiety was sparked as the thugs reconvened on the road opposite the court premises.
…The Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal is set to make a crucial decision regarding the March 18 governorship election.
….The incumbent, Dapo Abiodun, was declared the winner of the election, but his victory is being contested by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ladi Adebutu.
….The tribunal’s ruling will determine the rightful winner of the election. Abiodun has emerged as the winner of the gubernatorial election in Ogun State, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
With a total of 276,298 votes, Abiodun defeated his closest rivals Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 262,383 votes, as well as Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who received 94,754 votes. It is worth noting that Otegbeye had the support of former governor and serving APC Senator,
Ibikunle Amosun. According to a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he was reportedly assaulted by a group of thugs.
…The victim alleged that during the attack, he was robbed of his phone, cash, and other personal belongings.
