Student Set Ablaze by attackers for refusing to join Cult
The management of Osun State University in Osogbo said its security unit was working with police to ensure that suspected cultists who attacked a school student, Victor Oke, in the Akede district of Osogbo on Saturday, be arrested and prosecuted.
A statement by the university’s public relations officer, Ademola Adesoji, in Osogbo on Monday explained that Oke, a part-time final year political science student, was forced to join a cult but refused.
Adesoji said the student did not show up for his last exams on Saturday, and when his parents were contacted, it was discovered he had been attacked by cultists.
He said: “It was found that some of the eyewitnesses living in the area where the incident took place reported hearing Oke Ademiju Victor shout that he was not joining their cult, as they continued to call him. hitting with cutlass, hard stones and attempting to burn him, partially succeeding before he was finally saved.
“Since then, we have followed his parents and it is confirmed that he was rushed to the university teaching hospital for treatment, then later transferred to an undisclosed hospital where he is currently been taking care of.
