Tobi Amusan Speaks After 100m World Title Defeat
…Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan expressed her determination to….return stronger next year after surrendering her world women’s 100m hurdles title to Jamaica’s Danielle Williams on Thursday in Budapest.
Speaking to journalists after the event, Amusan acknowledged the challenging journey she undertook to reach the final, particularly in light of the recent difficulties she faced over the past weeks. She attributed her success to divine assistance, her support team, and her family.
…..Amusan conveyed her gratitude to all her supporters who stood by her through the highs and lows, and she pledged to make a comeback with even greater strength. She expressed her aspiration to reclaim her “medal” in the coming year.
Acknowledging the tough competition, Amusan emphasized that while losing is never easy, considering her experiences in the preceding months, she felt thankful for emerging from it all.
……Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, a 30-year-old who previously secured victory in Beijing in 2015, clocked a time of 12.43 seconds to clinch first place. She outpaced Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, who secured silver with a time of 12.44 seconds, while Kendra Harrison of the United States secured bronze with a time of 12.46 seconds.
In contrast, both Amusan and 2019 champion Nia Ali were not competitive in the event, finishing sixth and last, respectively.
Amusan had previously faced a provisional suspension over missed whereabouts failures, a matter that was resolved prior to the championship. The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) had temporarily suspended the Nigerian track and……field athlete due to three missed drug tests within a year. This situation typically led to a two-year suspension, even without a previous failed drug test.
…..Ultimately, the Disciplinary Tribunal’s verdict stated that Tobi Amusan had not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) by accumulating three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period.
