University staff commits suicide over hardship
A staff of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), identified as CARTER OSHODIN, has committed suicide in Edo State.
According to reports, the victim who was working as a data entry staff in the institution commited suicide over alleged hardship and financially constrained following the strike action by the academic and non-academic unions in Universities.
It was learned that the deceased had lamented his inability to offset some bills including his daughter’s school fees.
He was said to have approached some neighbours soliciting financial help from them prior to his decision to take his own life.
Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, CHIDI NWANBUZOR, said, although the command is aware of the unfortunate incident, it is yet to officially receive the report.
