10 Ways To Impress Your Boyfriend’s Parents

……..We are always told that first impression last longer. When going to meet your boyfriend’s parents for the first time, what impressions are you supposed to leave to guarantee them that their son is in safe hands?

……You are probably waiting for the second meeting which might be too late for you.

……..Below are ways you can catch your in-laws’ affection and trust.

– 1) PREPARE ACCORDINGLY: …..Getting prepared doesn’t require anything much but certain basic stuff like his parent’s names, their occupations, their age (not necessarily) if any of them is physically challenged. You should also find out if the parents are divorced or if either of them is deceased. Knowing how mutual the family is, also counts. All this information is important so that you can get comfortable around the family.

– 2) DRESS APPROPRIATELY: …..Remember you are addressed the way you dress. Always put on something you can be comfortable with. Not too tight and not too buggy at least it should look decent and presentable. If you find difficulties and are unsure about what outfit is best, you can ask your boyfriend to assist you since he knows his parents best.

– 3) ETIQUETTE IS EVERYTHING: …..You should get comfortable Yes but don’t forget your basic etiquette. Prove to your in-laws that you are a well-behaved young lady by always saying your please and thank you. With this, you have started to win their love and affection and they will surely praise you to other family members.

– 4) ALWAYS OFFER TO HELP: …..Since your in-laws are treating you like the visitor that you are, your little way of showing appreciation is by always offering to help them. You can help in preparing the meals, setting tables, or even buying food items from the market or you can ask what you can do to help. With this you portray yourself as well brought up and very hardworking daughter–in–law.

– 5) A GIFT IS A CHERRY ON TOP: …..How To Impress Your Boyfriend’s Parents
It is very inappropriate to visit your in-laws empty-handed. At least a box of perfume, or chocolate, or even a bouquet of flowers is not bad. Or better still ask your boyfriend what will make the best gift for his parents. Though it is not mandatory it is a nice thing to do to show your love and care for them.

– 6) TURN THAT FROWN UPSIDE DOWN: …..You should always learn to put on a smiley face, it gives a good impression of happiness and positive vibes. You should be conscious of yourself if you have a face that naturally shows a frown. Try to smile regularly but not too much to make you look stupid. A person who is seen smiling is regarded as approachable and welcoming.

– 7) DON’T GET TOO SERIOUS: …..When it is time for conversations generalize yourself with normal stuff, do not pick topics on religions, politics or other sensitive topics it could make them feel uncomfortable around you.

– 8) ASK QUESTIONS: …It is believed that only intelligent people ask questions, so visiting your boyfriend’s parents, try to ask questions about them. Remember you are not interrogating them but you are trying to start a conversation. You can start by asking your mother-in-law to tell you about your boyfriend’s childhood. It shows you are willing to know more and you care.

– 9) BE REAL ABOUT WHO YOU ARE:…….Being transparent will cause his parents to trust you more and know the daughter-in-law that you are. Being who you make you honest and confident especially when you are asking questions about yourself. Do not just reply with yes and no but support them more specifics. Be brief to avoid bragging, perhaps your bf has spoken a lot about you and they only have some confirmations. In all be humble.

– 10) NO PDA: ……..A way of showing respect is by staying independent as possible. Avoid holding hands most of the time, kissing or even calling him pet names in front of his parents. Not trying to say give him the ghost treatment but don’t get too close and all clingy. Instead, observe and move along.
