How A 20-year-old Fashion Designer Died After 5 Days In Coma Due To Injury Sustained From Police Attack In Osun

While narrating how the incident happened on Thursday, Wasiu Oladimeji explained how policemen stopped their motorcycle and demanded a bribe.

According to the narration, Ayomide is a 20-year-old fashion designer who is a resident of Owena, was travelling back to his base from Iragbiji after the Eid-el-Kabir festival with his friend, Wasiu Oladimeji, when their motorcycle was stopped by some policemen at a checkpoint in Ilahun.

In his words, “We met about four policemen at the checkpoint in Ilahun. One of them, who appeared drunk, approached us and demanded a bribe. When Ayomide brought out the amount the policeman demanded and was about to give him, the cop saw a bundle of N50,000 in my friend’s pocket.

“At that point, the policeman suddenly became aggressive. He approached us and hit Ayomide’s head with the butt of his rifle. The two of us fell from the motorcycle, while the three other policemen ran away.

“Before I managed to stand up, the policeman who perpetrated the act was about to flee, but he was stopped by some passersby, who got to the scene. Ayomide was bleeding from the nose, mouth and ear after the attack.

“A police officer, who was not at the scene when the attack took place, came and directed that Ayomide should be rushed to hospital. The officer rushed him to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, in his private car.

“Ayomide is currently unconscious at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
He has not opened his eyes or talk since then. His mobile phone and the sum of N50,000 in his pocket were stolen.”

Meanwhile, Popoola Adebayo, who is the master of Ayomide said he met Ayomide in the pool of his blood, adding that when they got to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, the doctor on duty asked them to deposit the sum of N50,000, the Divisional Police Officer, Ibokun Division, SP Atanda paid N30,000 out of the sum.

The victim, Ayomide spent five days in coma and latter reportedly died of the injury he sustained when officer Egharepbe attacked him.

Confirming the death of his apprentice, Popoola Adebayo, the master of Ayomide said Ayomide died on Sunday as he had remained unconscious since the attack six days ago.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Opalola, said the Commissioner of Police Osun command, Undie Adie has after receiving the report of the trial committee, recommended the dismissal of the officer who perpetrated the ugly act, Egharepbe to the Inspector General of Police and he has been dismissed, adding that he will be charged to court on Monday for murder.

According to Opalola, “The Osun State Police Command wishes to state that the officer, Inspector Ago Egharepbe, who brutalised a civilian in Ibokun has been tried and dismissed from the force.

“The Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie has recommended his dismissal to the Inspector General of Police and he has been dismissed. He will be charged to court on Monday for murder.


“CP Adie and the entire Osun Police Command commiserate with the family and friends of Ayomide Taiwo on the death of the loved on, as we promised to ensure Justice is served.”
