JUST IN: Deji Adeyanju’s Health Worsens, Flown Abroad For Medical Treatment
Human rights activist and freedom fighter, Deji Adeyanju, who was physically brutalised by dozens of hired government thugs on Monday in Abuja during a protest tagged “Freedom Rally” in front of the National Human Rights Commission, has been flown overseas for medical treatment.
OsunReporters News had earlier reported that the Deji Adeyanju was in a critical condition at the hospital following the deadly attack that left deep cuts all over his body and left him struggling to breathe.
Currently, Adeyanju has been flown to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he would be receiving comprehensive medical treatment.
Some operatives of the Department of State Services and policemen at the scene failed to rescue the activist, allowing the thugs carrying posters bearing President Muhammadu Buhari’s image and chanting ‘Sai Baba’ to violently ‘feast’ on him during the attack.
Several other activists, who participated in the peaceful demonstration, were also attacked by the hired thugs.
OsunReporters News had earlier reported on Monday, December 23, that the thugs have attacked the convener of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, who led civil society organisation (CSOs) demanding the release of Omoyele Sowore at a protest in Abuja.
The incident occurred at the headquarters of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in the federal capital territory (FCT).
The protesters were at the NHRC headquarters to present a letter of protest to the commission when the thugs unleashed violence on them on Monday.
Deji Adeyanju, convener of Concerned Nigerians, other leaders of the protest and journalists took to their heels in the melee while the reason for the attack is unclear till now.
On December 6, Sowore was rearrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) a few hours after he was released. Before he was released he had spent 124 in custody. He is charged with insulting President Muhammadu Buhari, treasonable felony and money laundering.
The court had summoned Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), and Yusuf Bichi, director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), over the detention of the pro-democracy activist despite a subsisting order for his release.
