Five burned alive as tanker explodes in Lagos/Ibadan road

The explosion of an oil tanker early in the morning on Wednesday November 17, 2021 killed five people along the Lagos – Ibadan highway.

The victims were reportedly “burned to the point of becoming unrecognizable” during the incident that took place around
Tunji Alegi filling station, Ogere Kwakyama region, Ogun state.

A tanker truck loaded with gasoline crashed into another truck, spilled its contents and ignited, burning at least five people.
At least five vehicles were also set on fire in the explosion.

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokeswoman Florence Okpe confirmed the incident in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Okpe, who is the FRSC’s public education officer, said the tanker collided with another truck, causing a fire.

She blamed the incident on “unjustified passing and reckless driving” by the tanker driver.
Okpe said the bodies of the victims were collected from the crushed trucks and deposited in a mortuary in Ipara, in the local government area of ​​Remo North.

“In total, five people were burned to the point of being unrecognizable.
“They were picked up in one of the damaged trucks and were dropped off at the FOS Morgue Ipara.

Okpe hinted that traffic along the route had been rerouted to avoid a side crash, just as she advised commuters to stay calm and cooperate with traffic managers.


According to reports that on Sunday evening, seven people were burned alive on the Lagos – Ibadan highway.
According to the FRSC, “a total of 10 people were involved in the accident”.
